China urges Dutch to resolve Nexperia chip row
China pressed the Netherlands on Tuesday to quickly settle a dispute over chipmaker Nexperia that Beijing says threatens global semiconductor supplies. Dutch authorities seized control of the Chinese-owned company in late September under emergency powers, citing security risks as chips become central to international rivalries. Nexperia said China retaliated by blocking certain exports from the country starting October 4.
Commerce Minister Wang Wentao told Dutch Economy Minister Vincent Karremans that the actions harm supply chain stability and asked the government to protect global interests. Karremans requested the call and said both sides discussed steps that benefit Nexperia and the European and Chinese economies. The ministers agreed to continue talks seeking a practical solution. The Netherlands invoked Cold War legislation to take control of Nexperia despite its Dutch base because of Chinese ownership.
