CSA unveils Zigbee 4.0 and Suzi Sub-GHz mesh
The Connectivity Standards Alliance released the Zigbee 4.0 protocol alongside Suzi, a branding initiative for Sub-GHz mesh networking capabilities. The updated standard extends operation into 800 MHz European frequencies and 900 MHz North American bands while maintaining backward compatibility with Zigbee 3.0 and Smart Energy implementations. Enhanced features include batch device commissioning and Zigbee Direct integration, which enables smartphone-based configuration through Bluetooth LE connections without gateway requirements.
Suzi targets long-range Internet of Things deployments across industrial, commercial, and residential sectors through Sub-GHz mesh architecture designed for reduced power consumption and extended coverage. Certification for Suzi-branded products begins in early 2026. The protocol expansion addresses signal penetration challenges in environments where 2.4 GHz performance suffers from interference.
Both initiatives aim to streamline device deployment while expanding frequency options for manufacturers seeking improved range and reliability in connected device ecosystems.
