Delhi firecracker sales surge 40% this Diwali
Delhi firecracker vendors depleted their inventory before Diwali as demand exceeded supply across the capital. Shoppers traveled to Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and Sonipat when local stocks ran out. Brijesh Goyal of the Chamber of Trade and Industry said most retailers faced shortages a day before the festival, with citywide revenue reaching 50 billion rupees.
Sadar Bazaar merchants reported a 40 percent sales jump from the previous year for fireworks, decorations, and lights. The Supreme Court authorized green firecracker sales from Oct. 18 through 21, with usage permitted between 6 and 7 a.m. and 8 and 10 p.m. on celebration days. National retail activity from Navratri through Diwali totaled 5.4 trillion rupees in goods and 650 billion rupees in services. The figures marked a 25 percent increase from last year’s 4.25 trillion rupees, demonstrating strong consumer confidence nationwide.
