FG partners with University of Uyo on skills training
Nigeria’s housing ministry will fund skills training programs next year after meeting with University of Uyo officials who seek partnerships to prepare workers for construction projects. Minister of State Yusuf Abdullahi Ata said the government plans to include the center’s requirements in the 2026 budget to support labor force development.
Ambassador Ernest Essien from the university’s Center for Skills Acquisition and Rural Development requested collaboration to train artisans for mass housing initiatives across the country. The ministry runs the National Artisans Skills Acquisition Programme that certifies 10,000 construction workers annually over three years.
Permanent Secretary Shuaib Belgore said the center’s vocational education aligns with federal infrastructure goals that require trained personnel. Both organizations will identify areas for joint efforts to produce graduates ready to work on building projects.
The Akwa Ibom institution praised the federal government’s efforts to equip citizens with marketable skills to address workforce shortages. Officials agreed that affordable housing expansion demands skilled laborers who can meet national development targets through professional certification programs.
