Fortnite adds Sidekicks, pets with customization limits
Epic Games has launched a new cosmetic feature in Fortnite called Sidekicks—companion pets that follow players across Battle Royale, LEGO Fortnite, Save the World, and creator-made experiences, provided the mode supports them. They also appear in Fortnite Festival but remain backstage. These pets offer no gameplay benefits but respond to the environment and can be interacted with using special Sidekick Emotes.
The first Sidekick, Peels—a banana-themed dog—will be available tomorrow through the Battle Pass. Additional Sidekicks, including Bonesy (for owners of the Bonesy Back Bling), Spike, and Lil’ Raptor, arrive next Friday. Epic also hinted at a cat-themed Sidekick coming soon.
Customization is limited: each Sidekick can be given only one Appearance per purchase. Buying the same pet multiple times unlocks additional, unique Appearances—duplicates are not allowed. While players can freely change names and accessories, and earn hats or hoodies by spending Sidekick Points, the one-time customization cap has drawn criticism for encouraging repeated purchases, particularly from younger fans.
Fortnite’s current Shock ‘N Awesome season ends tomorrow at 8:30 AM Pacific Time. After a two- to three-hour maintenance window, Chapter 6 Season 5 launches, featuring a theme based on The Simpsons.
