HarbourView acquires majority stake in Slipknot catalog
HarbourView Equity Partners has purchased a majority interest in the music catalog of heavy metal group Slipknot, a transaction reportedly valued at $120 million according to industry sources. The acquisition covers the Iowa band’s extensive body of work, including their Grammy-winning track Before I Forget along with other popular recordings such as Wait and Bleed, Duality, and Psychosocial. Slipknot has accumulated 30 million album sales globally and generated over 7 billion views on YouTube since forming in 1995.
The investment firm, founded by Sherrese Clarke and supported by Apollo Global Management, has assembled a portfolio exceeding 35,000 songs from more than 70 catalog purchases. HarbourView recently obtained $500 million in additional debt financing through KKR, following a similar arrangement earlier this year. Clarke noted that audience engagement data demonstrates the band’s sustained cultural relevance spanning multiple decades, aligning with the company’s investment criteria for acquiring enduring musical works.
