OGRA hails NUPRC for historic turnaround in Nigeria’s oil output
The Oil & Gas Governance Reform Alliance has commended regulatory leadership for reversing prolonged stagnation in petroleum extraction, citing multiple instances where national output surpassed 1.7 million barrels daily. Executive Director Ibrahim Kalango attributed the turnaround to enforcement measures and operational discipline implemented by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission under Engr. Gbenga Komolafe, noting that investors approved approximately $20 billion in field development plans across recent months, while rig operations reached levels unseen in nearly a decade.
The advocacy organization said increased drilling activity and successful final investment decisions validate progress toward a 2.5 million barrel daily target, describing this trajectory as the most credible revenue recovery pathway since the price collapse periods. Officials announced a licensing round aimed at attracting fresh capital and expanding reserve holdings, with the alliance emphasizing that transparent bidding processes remain essential for sustaining momentum and competing globally during industry transformation.
