Hyundai to design US nuclear power plants
A South Korean builder won its first contract to design large atomic plants in America. Hyundai Engineering & Construction will handle initial planning for four reactors as part of a $500 billion energy project in Texas.
Fermi America will develop the massive facility near Amarillo to power artificial intelligence systems. The complex will combine atomic units, solar arrays and gas plants across 21 million square meters to generate 11 gigawatts.
Hyundai signed the preliminary design deal on Friday after earlier talks with the developer. Federal regulators are reviewing permits while both companies prepare for detailed engineering work.
The partners expect to finalize construction terms by mid-2026. Fermi America completed its stock listing in October, after launching 9 months earlier.
