India targets 350 airports by 2047, says Naidu
India plans to expand its aviation network to 350 airports by 2047, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu said after opening the upgraded Terminal 2 at Delhi’s main airport on Saturday. The country operates 164 airports and must add roughly 200 more facilities while attracting additional aircraft to meet growth targets.
The renovated terminal will reopen on Sunday after closing in April 2025 for upgrades that will add 15 million passenger seats to Delhi airport’s total capacity of 120 million. The expansion supports efforts to establish India as a global aviation center. Delhi’s airport joined six other facilities worldwide handling more than 100 million travelers annually.
Naidu said investigators are examining the AI-171 crash in accordance with international protocols. Indian technicians decoded the black box domestically for the first time. The minister noted that the expertise in airport construction developed over the past decade enables rapid development of modern facilities across the country.
