UAE launches 6G initiative to lead next-gen telecom development
The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority established the United Arab Emirates 6G Initiative during the inaugural session of a national committee comprising federal agencies, telecommunications operators, academic institutions, and international mobile technology corporations. The program seeks to advance the country beyond its current fifth-generation network infrastructure, covering more than 99.5 percent of inhabited regions through 23,000 installations serving upwards of 10 million users by incorporating artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and satellite systems into future connectivity platforms.
Dr. Marwan Dabbah from Khalifa University chairs the Research and Development Working Group overseeing innovation programs, while Dr. Khaled Al Awadhi from the regulatory authority leads the Integration and Strategic Partnerships Working Group coordinating domestic and foreign collaboration. The committee intends to develop international sixth-generation standards, implement regulatory frameworks, and create spectrum management strategies supporting post-5G telecommunications requirements across economic sectors.
