Invictus Energy flees Australia for Zimbabwe gas riches
Invictus Energy, an Australian Stock Exchange-listed company that found condensate gas deposits at Cabora Bassa in Mashonaland Central province, has transferred its main office from Australia to the Zimbabwean capital. The relocation follows a recent transaction where Al Mansour Holdings of Qatar purchased a 19.9 percent ownership share for $25 million and pledged as much as $500 million in potential future financing.
The firm’s 2025 annual report indicates that senior foreign personnel will work from the Harare base during continued exploration activities. The company has developed a supply station in the basin area featuring housing for 20 workers plus facilities for storage, logistics and workshop operations needed for full-scale drilling programs.
Energy sector analysts describe the Cabora Bassa Basin as among Africa’s largest unexplored frontier rift regions for petroleum and natural gas. Invictus holds one Special Grant and two Exclusive Prospecting Orders covering the territory where drilling at Mukuyu-1 and Mukuyu-2 confirmed high-grade gas condensate last year. The wells contain an estimated 1.3 trillion cubic feet of gas and 230 million barrels of oil equivalent. Commercial production has not yet begun because the project remains in development and requires substantial infrastructure construction before extraction operations can start.
