iPhone 20 to feature LOFIC camera tech in 2027
Apple plans to equip its 2027 iPhone models with advanced camera sensors that dramatically expand light capture capabilities. The iPhone 20 series will use Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor technology to achieve 20 stops of dynamic range, up from 13 in current devices, matching professional cinema cameras, according to a report from Naver blogger Yeux1122.
The sensor improvement enables cameras to capture both dark shadows and bright highlights without losing detail or introducing noise. Chinese manufacturers Xiaomi and Huawei are preparing similar technology for their smartphones. Samsung lacks visible plans to adopt the advancement, which may hurt its efforts to become Apple’s primary camera sensor supplier ahead of Sony.
Apple may skip the iPhone 19 name and move directly to iPhone 20 to mark two decades since the original device appeared in 2007. The company expects to release six different iPhone models before the anniversary lineup arrives.
