Kojima bends PS5 limits with power twist
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach runs with PlayStation 5 power-saving mode via a technical approach that differs from standard performance settings, according to Digital Foundry analysis. The game operates at 30 frames per second while maintaining Quality Mode tessellation and geometry at 1440p resolution with dynamic scaling. The sequel’s implementation proves more complex than the Director’s Cut version, which enhanced a PlayStation 4 title with fewer technical demands.
Digital Foundry suggests developers may be preparing for a portable PlayStation device that requires flexible performance scaling. The current 115-watt power target exceeds expected handheld requirements of 15 to 25 watts, and 1440p resolution sits above typical portable specifications. Power saver mode halves processor resources and reduces clock speeds to lower energy consumption. Bluepoint Games’ Demon’s Souls Remake is also among the limited PlayStation 5 titles that support the feature.
