Kojima denies ever offered Matrix game
Hideo Kojima said Thursday he never received an offer to create a Matrix video game despite meetings with the Wachowski siblings in 1999. The game designer clarified remarks made by former Konami executive Christopher Bergstresser, who claimed the franchise creators approached the company with the proposal.
Kojima exchanged emails with the directors, who were mutual admirers, and met them three times when they visited Japan to promote the first Matrix film. He was developing Metal Gear Solid 2 at the time and believes he might have accepted if anyone had informed him of the offer.
The designer expressed regret that such a collaboration never materialized. No Matrix game has successfully captured the essence of the science fiction series.
