Lagos backs youth agri-tech to boost farming, jobs
Lagos State Agriculture Commissioner Abisola Olusanya announced expanded government funding for technology-focused agricultural ventures following the selection of finalists from over 1,000 business proposals submitted for the 2025 Agrithon competition. Support packages totaling 150 million naira plus corporate contributions will assist entrepreneurs developing digital tools addressing production efficiency and market access challenges across farming operations, representing a 50 percent increase from previous allocations.
The evaluation process combined written assessments, presentations and site inspections to identify viable enterprises regardless of geographic location, with participants from Ogun and Anambra among the states represented. Olusanya highlighted the agri-innovation club as facilitating resource sharing among participants while connecting emerging businesses with private sector partners and government programs designed to strengthen food system resilience through youth engagement in agricultural modernization.
