M5 MacBook Pro SSD speeds 211% faster than M4 model
Apple’s M5 MacBook Pro delivers storage performance more than three times faster than its predecessor in benchmark testing conducted by Max Tech. The newest model achieved 6,323 megabytes per second in sequential read operations compared with 2,031 megabytes per second from the M4 version, representing a 211 percent increase.
Write speeds reached 6,068 megabytes per second on the M5 machine, versus 3,293 megabytes per second on the M4 model —an 84 percent improvement, measured with Blackmagic Disk Speed Test software. Both laptops have identical dual-NAND flash memory configurations and single-fan cooling systems, despite the performance gap.
The enhanced controller enables speeds matching dedicated Gen 4 solid-state drives found in desktop computers. Applications launch more quickly on the upgraded hardware, though the processor reaches 99 degrees Celsius under heavy workloads while running cooler than the previous generation.
Amazon lists the base M5 configuration at $1,583 while the M4 model with 16 gigabytes of memory and 512 gigabytes of storage sells for $1,349.
