Mongla Port sees surge in foreign ship arrivals, boosts revenue
Mongla Port handled 255 foreign commercial vessels in the first 117 days of fiscal year 2025-26, according to port authority officials. The southwestern facility processed 4.7 million tons of cargo between July 1 and Oct. 25, with 18 ships delivering 10,608 container units and 10 vessels importing 3,253 automobiles.
Deputy Director Muhammad Makruzzaman said government measures have increased ship traffic at the nation’s second-largest seaport. About 227 foreign vessels remain docked at jetties and anchorage points carrying fertilizer, clinker, liquefied petroleum gas, coal and stone. The port operates at 60 percent capacity with no tax increases this fiscal year.
Imported goods range from food grains and cement materials to machinery and petroleum products. Bangladesh exports fish, shrimp, jute products, frozen foods and textiles through the facility, which supports economic growth and employment across the region.
