PenCom trains workers on new pension enrolment
The National Pension Commission trained pension officers across Nigeria to help federal workers and retirees understand the Contributory Pension Scheme. Director General Omolola Oloworaran said the agency built a streamlined enrollment system for 2026 registration and treasury-funded employees eligible for accrued rights. Officials plan to diversify pension investments, extend coverage to informal-sector participants, and improve retiree support services.
The commission manages 26 trillion naira in pension assets that support national infrastructure and provide monthly benefits to more than 552,000 people. Another 291,735 retirees received lump sum payments under the program. The scheme covers 10 million Nigerians, from government departments to self-employed workers, through the Personal Pension Plan.
