Pokémon Legends – Z-A posts huge US launch sales
Pokémon Legends: Z-A achieved the largest retail launch for any video game in the United States since The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom debuted in May 2023, according to Circana analyst Mat Piscatella. The Pokémon Company reported on Friday that the game sold 5.8 million copies globally in its first week. European sales data from GSD showed the title overtook Battlefield 6 for the top position but fell 28 percent short of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which sold 6.5 million copies in its 2022 launch week.
Nintendo players continue to favor physical game purchases more than PlayStation and Xbox users, who have largely shifted to digital downloads. Critics praised the game for its refined combat system and polished presentation despite offering a smaller world than previous entries. The release establishes a strong foundation for future Pokémon games as the franchise continues to evolve beyond its traditional format.
