SpiceJet Delhi-Patna flight aborts, lands safe
A SpiceJet plane bound for Patna turned back to Delhi on Thursday morning after encountering mechanical problems shortly after takeoff. The Boeing 737 carrying an undisclosed number of travelers landed without incident, and passengers left the aircraft safely. The carrier provided a replacement plane to complete the journey ahead of the Chhath festival.
The budget airline has faced multiple operational difficulties in recent months. On September 12, a turboprop lost an external wheel at takeoff from Kandla but reached Mumbai safely. A flight bound for Kathmandu experienced a suspected engine fire at Delhi airport and returned to the gate as a precaution.
The carrier reported a 234 crore rupee loss for the April through June period compared with a 158 crore rupee profit one year earlier. Management blamed inactive planes and restoration expenses, along with reduced vacation travel from global tensions.
