Spotify tests Premium Platinum tier in 5 markets
Spotify is piloting a new three-tier subscription model in five markets, introducing a higher-priced ‘Premium Platinum’ plan. The test is underway in India, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates. This new structure includes Premium Lite, Premium Standard, and the top-tier Premium Platinum, which is priced significantly higher than previous offerings.
In India, for example, the new Premium Standard tier costs 43 percent more than the old individual plan. The Premium Platinum tier, costing more than double the original price, bundles exclusive features like lossless audio, AI-powered tools, and mixing capabilities. The company stated this evolution of its portfolio is designed to better meet diverse user needs based on engagement insights.
Existing subscribers in these markets will keep their current plans but can choose to upgrade. This pilot, focused on emerging streaming economies, represents a strategic shift by gating previously available features like lossless audio behind its most expensive tier in these specific regions.
