Uganda CEOs tour Kapeeka industrial powerhouse
Business leaders toured the Liaoshen Industrial Park in Kapeeka on Friday to examine Uganda’s manufacturing growth and investment climate. The Presidential CEO Forum organized the visit to demonstrate how factories create jobs and reduce imports. Executives saw tile production and fruit processing operations that employ more than 1,000 workers and use raw materials from Ugandan sources.
Irene Birungi Mugisha said the forum connects company heads with government officials at 25 industrial sites across the nation. Gen. Salim Saleh Akandwanaho explained that Kapeeka transformed from a small trading post into a zone with 38 active factories. Nine parks already operate while officials plan to complete the full network by 2026.
Emmanuel Katongole urged businesses to buy local products rather than import basic goods. Prof. Nuwagaba from the Bank of Uganda described industrial parks as engines for economic change that generate exports and transform communities. Cooperation among government agencies, universities, and private firms will help replicate the model nationwide.
