Alan Wake 2 hits 80FPS on MacBook Pro M4 Max
A user has demonstrated impressive gaming capabilities on Apple’s latest laptop hardware by running a graphically demanding title through compatibility software. The 14-inch MacBook Pro equipped with an M4 Max processor achieved approximately 80 frames per second while playing Alan Wake 2, despite the game lacking native support for the platform.
The Reddit user oyskionline reported using CrossOver software to launch the two-year-old survival horror game on a system featuring a 14-core processor and 32-core graphics unit. Performance reached playable levels with the internal resolution configured at 1,800 by 1,169 pixels and visual quality set to high. MetalFX upscaling ran in balanced mode alongside frame generation technology, likely AMD’s FSR 3 implementation, since alternatives remain unavailable for Apple silicon systems. Path tracing remained disabled during testing, as enabling that feature would significantly reduce frame rates.
The achievement marks substantial progress from six months earlier, when the game would not launch at all through compatibility layers. Developer Remedy Entertainment previously brought Control to Mac systems, suggesting Alan Wake 2 could receive similar treatment with official optimization.
