Customs, COWA launch outreach at Seme border
Nigeria Customs Service partnered with the Customs Officers’ Wives Association to deliver medical services and environmental programs benefiting more than 1,000 border residents in Badagry. The Green Border Initiative combined healthcare screenings, including hypertension testing and eye care, with the distribution of industrial sewing machines, grinding equipment and gas cooking systems supported by startup grants totaling 50,000 naira per recipient.
Assistant Comptroller-General Muhammed Babandede emphasized connections between environmental degradation and security challenges while encouraging nationwide expansion of tree planting efforts. The command dedicated the Kikelomo Shakirat Adeniyi Arena as a revenue-generating facility for women-led projects, with association president Kikelomo Adeniyi announcing plans to present the border initiative at international forums in Brazil for potential global partnerships.
Beneficiaries received laboratory testing, medications and empowerment tools while participants planted 30 coconut and palm trees during ceremonies attended by military commanders and traditional leaders from the host community.
