DSE, CSE fall as large-cap stocks drag market down
Bangladesh’s two stock exchanges fell on Monday as major companies lost value. The Dhaka Stock Exchange broad index dropped 22.9 points to close at 5,127, down from 5,150 in the prior session.
Trading volume held steady at 4.6 billion taka. Banks led activity with 14.5 percent of transactions, followed by general insurance at 12 percent and pharmaceuticals at 9.2 percent.
Cement stocks declined 1.7 percent, while information technology fell 1.5 percent, and travel dropped 1 percent. General insurance gained 2.8 percent and jute rose 1.9 percent. Among 397 traded securities, 190 decreased, 142 increased and 65 stayed flat.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange also closed lower. Its selective index fell 18 points and the all-share index decreased 24.1 points.
