Hana Financial to create Consumer Protection Committee
South Korea’s Hana Financial Group will create a board-level consumer protection committee and adopt firmwide safeguards for customers. Chairman Ham Young-joo said on Sunday the changes will establish industry standards for protecting consumers beyond basic compliance requirements.
The board will replace its risk management panel with the Consumer Protection Committee after shareholders approve governance amendments at their 2026 meeting. Subsidiaries will operate under a unified set of protection policies through a new Group Consumer Protection Governance framework.
Management plans to track threats from artificial intelligence systems and digital asset markets through an integrated control platform. The structure will monitor product development, sales and service operations to prevent customer harm.
Hana becomes the first financial company in the nation to elevate consumer protection to the board level. Officials said the reorganization reflects efforts to strengthen customer trust across all business units.
