India honors top scientists with Vigyan Puraskar
India has selected its top scientists and researchers for the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2025, the nation’s premier honor for excellence in science, technology and innovation. The government revealed winners on Sunday across four categories that recognize lifetime achievement, distinguished contributions, young talent and team efforts. The awards span 13 scientific fields ranging from physics and chemistry to space science and environmental research.
Prof. Jayant Vishnu Narlikar received the Vigyan Ratna posthumously for his physics work. Eight scientists earned Vigyan Shri awards for major contributions. Fourteen researchers under 45 years old won the Vigyan Yuva-Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar prizes. The CSIR Aroma Mission Team claimed the Vigyan Team award for agricultural science advances.
Officials accepted nominations from Oct. 4 through Nov. 17, 2024, via the national awards portal. Authorities will announce the ceremony date later.
