Liberia launches cybersecurity hackathon to empower youth in digital defense
Liberia’s telecommunications ministry partnered with Starz University to host a cybersecurity competition and training session for students. The 24-hour hacking challenge tests participants on digital defense, ethical hacking, and incident response through practical exercises.
Students compete in teams while cybersecurity professionals share protection strategies and risk management techniques. The ministry said the program develops local talent and strengthens national defenses against digital threats.
The event takes place at the Starz University campus and awards prizes to top performers. Officials described the hackathon as part of broader government efforts to build technical capacity and prepare youth for careers in digital security.
The competition connects students with mentors and provides networking opportunities. Ministry representatives said the initiative positions Liberia as an active participant in African digital transformation while empowering young people to protect national infrastructure.
