Nigeria Africa trade hits N4.82tr, says Customs
Nigeria’s commerce with African nations surged to N4.82 trillion during the opening half of 2025, marking a substantial increase over the N600 billion from the comparable period. Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi shared these figures at the Customs Partnership for African Cooperation in Trade gathering held in Abuja, describing the expansion as evidence of accelerating regional economic integration.
The event drew 464 confirmed attendees from 28 nations, with 26 African countries sending delegations that included 10 senior customs administrators, 16 diplomatic officials, 53 chief executives, and 19 managing directors. Adeniyi emphasized that customs agencies serve as custodians of granular trade information essential for advancing African Continental Free Trade Area objectives, and he advocated for modernizing customs operations and logistics systems to support continental value chains. He credited discussions at conferences in Kigali and Cairo with inspiring the partnership initiative, arguing that successful implementation requires African leadership rather than external direction.
