PIB warns of fake video linked to Nirmala Sitharaman
Government fact-checkers warned Monday about a digitally altered video showing Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman promoting a fraudulent investment scheme. The manipulated clip falsely claims that participants can earn 60,000 rupees within 24 hours and 10 lakh rupees per month.
The Press Information Bureau stated neither Sitharaman nor any government agency launched such a program. Officials urged people to verify suspicious claims before making financial decisions and noted authentic government websites end with .gov.in.
The agency advised viewers to watch for mismatched lip movements and unnatural voice patterns when assessing video authenticity. The Bombay Stock Exchange issued similar warnings last week after criminals created fake social media accounts using photos of exchange officials to deceive investors.
