Zimbabwe expands eGP system to boost procurement transparency
The Zimbabwean government is implementing an electronic Government Procurement system to enhance transparency in its public spending. David Mnangagwa, the Deputy Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, stated that the system is a fundamental re-engineering of the procurement landscape designed to eliminate corruption and inefficiency. He emphasized the government’s duty to ensure taxpayer funds are spent efficiently for the benefit of citizens.
This digital platform, managed by the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe, allows all public entities and bidders to conduct procurement activities online. The initiative aims to foster greater competition and integrity, enabling businesses across the country to compete for national tenders equally. The move follows a revelation that the country spent 19 billion dollars on procurement over a recent five-year period.
