Guadagnino keeps Patrick Bateman male
Luca Guadagnino will keep the lead character male in his upcoming American Psycho adaptation, dismissing weekend rumors about a gender-swapped version with Margot Robbie. Sources confirmed to Deadline that casting continues for the Patrick Bateman role, with Austin Butler and Jacob Elordi among actors discussed online as potential successors to Christian Bale’s portrayal in the 2000 film.
The original movie adaptation, directed by Mary Harron, became a cult classic despite controversy over its violence. Scott Z. Burns is writing the script based on Bret Easton Ellis’ 1991 novel, which tells the story of a wealthy 1980s investment banker who becomes a serial killer.
Guadagnino previously reimagined Suspiria in 2018, creating a darker interpretation of the 1977 horror film. The director has earned recognition for Call Me by Your Name and Challengers. No actors have been officially cast for the new version yet.
