Viral video shows smoker’s tar-soaked ROG 9800GT restored
Hardware restorer Madness727 successfully revived a 2008 ASUS ROG Matrix GeForce 9800GT graphics card that spent more than ten years inside the residence of a chain smoker, with the component arriving covered in tar residue and emitting heavy cigarette odors that prompted viewers to label it the lung cancer card. The specialist removed accumulated nicotine deposits using industrial degreaser and isopropyl alcohol before replacing thermal paste and lubricating the fan bearing, restoring the component to near-original appearance without visible corrosion.
Performance testing showed the refurbished unit achieving approximately 16 frames per second while running Crysis, demonstrating functional capability despite its age and extended exposure to tobacco smoke. The restorer intends to sell the cleaned graphics card to a collector focused on unusual hardware specimens.
