Great Zimbabwe site upgrade nears completion with new centre
The €3 million Great Zimbabwe World Heritage Site development project is nearing completion, with a new visitors’ centre set to open by year-end. The initiative, launched by President Mnangagwa in June 2022, aims to preserve the site and improve its appeal. Funded by the French Development Agency, it is being implemented by UNOPS in partnership with Zimbabwe’s National Museums and Monuments and UNESCO. The upgraded site will feature modern facilities and is expected to attract more tourists, supporting the government’s goal of boosting tourism and contributing to Masvingo’s projected US$8 billion GDP by 2030.
